Single speed is an exciting topic at the moment. Will Dirt and BMX come together in the long run? The NC-17 team are part of both worlds. In our hub we use the tried and tested original version of the freewheel rather than using a separated cog and freehub body. We have also reduced the overall size of the thread diameter of the freewheel meaning that it is now possible to run a 13 tooth cog rather than the 16tooth standard. The 13T freewheel comes with the hub as standard and is also available as a spare part.

By using a screw-on-freewheel a flatter spoke angle is possible giving a better centered and stronger rear wheel.

We do not like the usual MTB cartridge solution for two reasons. First of all, with a freehub body and single cog the pressure on the cog is passed onto the freehub body through a very small contact area and problems with damage to both parts commonly occurs over time. Secondly, pressure is put on the chain and freewheel by using a chain tensioner meaning that the chain and cranks freewheel less freely due to the additional friction in the system. Thirdly, using a tensioner is rarely as efficient at keeping the chain where it is meant to be as using a dedicated single speed system. So if you are thinking of running a single speed set-up then you are not going to find a better solution that the NC-17 Single Speed hub.
